Mission and Community

HMMN exists to connect hearts and communities.

Rev. Marissa Galván Valle yesterday reflected on the topic «Christian Education: Information, formation, and transformation.»

Christian education has been a pillar in the Presbyterian Church and in the Hispanic/Latino tradition. But how do we make it relevant and transformative in the current context?

We need a renewed pedagogical effort; to go beyond cultural domination for better integration with daily life; to adapt teaching to bilingual and bicultural communities; to help families become educational agents in the home.Christian education must connect with social and political realities, ensuring that the Church is not just a refuge, but an active place of transformation and justice. It is time to evaluate our needs and formulate critical questions for a new imagination of faith and action in our communities.

The presentation delivered yesterday, Friday, November 14, by Rev. Dr. Jesús Juan (Jesse) González

Offered an essential perspective within the framework of the Regional Gathering RE Imagining Hispanic/Latino Ministries in PCUSA.

Reimagining in the Bible is not just an exercise in creativity, but a deep spiritual practice for renewing the mind and spirit, allowing faith and imagination to be transformed by God’s perspective. It is about transforming one’s own perspective through the renewal of understanding, inviting God to mold the imagination to see reality with a new hope.

Today’s agenda will once again be intense and promising. We look forward to reflections on Christian service, faith-based educational formation, and new ways of living out mission and community in the church.

7 characteristics of a church in contextual mission were presented by Rev. Dr. Jorge W. Abdala

this morning during the Regional Gathering RE-Imagining Hispanic-Latino Ministries in PCUSA. As part of his presentation «RE-Imagining Being Church in Contextual Mission», a call is made to think that the church does not have a mission, but rather the mission has a church.

Listening with sensitivity to the voice of the Holy Spirit will be the guiding principle of these days of contributions, debates and reimagination.

Yesterday the Regional Gathering began

«RE-Imagining Hispanic-Latino Ministries in PC(USA),» a space focused on Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity.
Today, Friday, November 14th, we continue with an intensive working day, with sessions focused on re-imagining the church in contextual mission, creating alternative communities of well-being, and practicing collaborative leadership that guides our mission of service, among other key topics.

This gathering will extend through Sunday, November 16th, 2025, closing with a Special Closing Worship Service at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

The day we’ve been waiting for has arrived!

The RE Imagining Hispanic-Latino Ministries in PCUSA gathering begins: Diversity, Inclusion, Equity: A Perspective of the Present Reality and New Models of Hispanic-Latino Ministries in PC(USA)✨

Today we start with official registration and a welcome dinner. May the Holy Spirit guide us in the community connection that will be formed and may our voices be the hope for the church of today and tomorrow!
